Course Description:
This course aims to acquaint the students with the basic concepts of human language in general and the structure of English and in particular. The various areas of linguistics such as animal communication and human language, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics and psycholinguistics will be discussed in class. It is hoped that some knowledge about human language and English will help the students learn English more efficiently and enhance their appreciation of the styles of English.
Course Requirements:
In each semester, there will be the assignment of writing a short
report of about five pages in addition to the mid-term and final exams.
